only 7 school days left!

I've started writing a new post about 6 times but, I feel so scattered that I feel like none of it was coherent enough to post. So, here is what's on my mind today. Hope it works out!

I have gone back to school to finish up the year. It seems like the whole swine flu scare is basically gone. I have so much to do that it is kind of necessary for me to be there at this time of year. Plus, I am not going back next year or for a LONG time(ever again?). I have a ton more to do because of that. It's not too bad though. I do get some great stories out of it. Here are a couple that come to my head. . . but I'm translating so maybe you had to be there:

I came to school one day and notice that all of Joseph's papers for the past few days has a corner that looks like someone took a bite out of it. I asked him if he ate his paper and he just hid the paper or threw it away unwilling to talk about it. So, then after he went to Art and came back with another paper with a corner bitten out I had him go show another teacher what he had done. He was embarrassed but showed her. She asked him if he was a goat. He said no.
The next day he comes in and says "Ms. Spencer, soy un chivo y me gusta comer papel-I'm a goat and I like to eat paper." I couldn't reply with a straight face so I just nodded. Later, we asked him if we should bring him a smelly shoe and a can to eat. That put an end to the paper eating.

I had my students working on a cut and paste project while I was testing them individually on a concept they were supposed to have mastered(in Kinder I can't just give out tests). So, they were all supposed to be working and not bothering me or the student I was testing, they know the drill. Well, all of a sudden I notice a crowd forming around this one kid. I tell everyone to go sit down. They look at me and say with their worried little faces-"John dijo que su dedo se le va a caer" I tell them all to sit down and notice that there is John with his head on his desk crying. I call him over and he told me "corte mi dedo y se me va a caer-I cut my finger and it is going to fall off" I look at his finger and I can't even see a cut. There was no blood coming out of his finger. I look him in the eye and tell him Your finger is not going to fall off. I have him wash his hand as I find a tiny band-aid and make him put it on because I can't find where the cut is. Poor kid thought his finger was going to fall off. Where do they come up with this?

Not too long ago we did a worm unit where we studied parts of a worm and observed real worms. Most kids had not problem getting their hands dirty and "observing" the earthworms. I'll spare you the gory details of a worm's life in kindergarten. Anyways, last week in math we were talking about Graphs/surveys. I gave them a couple examples on yes/no surveys and then let them come up with their own questions and ask each other. They loved it. So, to close at the end the day I gave them one more question. Do you like to eat worms? I told them I had a bowl of worms and mud and was going to give each of them a plate full to try them. You should have seen their faces. They were all sure they were going to say no. I can't even describe their faces of surprise and disgust. I served them and they quickly figured out it was gummy worms and chocolate pudding with Oreo crumbs. It was a ton of fun for them and me. I wish I could post those pics. Guess you had to be there.

Well, there are 7 days of school left! I am only going to 5 cause I am going to be in Utah for Matt's brother Ryan's wedding this weekend. It kinda feels like when I was in college and before the break there was too much to do. But, somehow I got it done. I hope I can get it all done this time too.

Don't worry I have help!
My sister went shopping with me and doesn't make fun of me too much when I reach for the flats. She just graduated with her Masters so my parents were in town. We are so proud of her!
While my mom was here she cleaned out my sink and the tub-which is getting harder to reach. Thanks mom!
And Matt offers to help kick every time I tell him his daughter is kicking me.
But, Matt has gotten used to doing most of the cooking and I have to say he is putting up with my crankiness better than I am. Love him!
